Remember the good ole days of Instagram, when you could get your clients 10% engagement on Instagram 1000 fans and you could usually expect 100 likes eazy peezy and a good 10-15 comments.
In Feb we noticed something strange. Our likes and engagement went down by over 40%.
Our clients noticed as well.
This was very puzzling to our team. I took to the internet and message boards and read about “shadow bans.” A “shadow ban” as it was defined is when Instagram does not show your posts in the hashtag search.
We checked our posts and sure enough, they weren’t found when we did a hashtag search.
So as marketers one of the biggest obstacles was posting for your clients via the mobile app. This is not optimal when you are trying to post for over 10-15 clients. So just like a group of rebel fighters we found a workaround.

Help Me Onlypult You’re My Only Hope
We found a 3rd party app called Onlypult. Onlypult allows you to post to Instagram directly from your desktop. For realz!
Was this within the guidelines of Instagram? Probably not, but we have never had a problem and everything worked perfectly. Besides we’re daredevils!!
The Source of the Problem
It’s common knowledge that Facebook (The Empire) throttles back posts that aren’t done natively within Facebook. I had a suspicion they had started doing the same thing on Instagram.
I made a quick post from Onlypult loaded with #’s and did a search to see if my post was populated.
Nothing.. The Empire Strikes Back! lol!
So I immediately posted from my phone. I did a hashtag search and boom there was my post! Not only that, the post received over 100 likes, which was the norm before the ban.

While the good news is I found the problem, the bad news was the days of our team posting directly from a desktop were over.
What to do now?
At this point, we do all of our scheduling through Sprout Social. Sprout Social allows us to upload our photos create descriptions then we can connect our clients Instagram accounts.
You need the Sprout Social app for this to work and you need to add your clients Instagram account to yours.
This isn’t the fastest way but in order to get the most exposure possible, this is the only way.
